Gold-plated refers to the thin layer of gold applied over a stainless steel metal such as copper, brass, etc. While these jewelries are not solid gold, the plating consists of 10K – 24k gold. To be labelled gold-plated, the layer of gold must be equal to or greater than 0.5 microns.
